History of Ukraine
Ukraine was a part of Russia before they gained they independence as their own country wiht their own government. They have continued to stay close wiht Russia in having similiar foreign and local decisions. At first Ukraine was ignored by both Russia ana Austria. In the 19th century a lot of Ukrainians migrated to Russia and they also migrated eastward, the migration increased after the Siberian Railroad construction was finished. The Ukrainian entered World War I, joining the Central Powers and the Triple Entente. They joined both sides because of the control both Russia and Austria had on them. Although a majority of the Ukrainians fought with Russia a chuck of them fought with Austria. After World War I ended many parts of the Russian and Austrian empires collaspsed. Russia was also fighting their revolution at this time too. They became a country after the Russian Revolution, when they declared their independence on January 28, 1918. The country did not come out as one country, but instead several states of Ukraine emerged and declared their independence. After they had branched off of Russia, Poland had attacked and gone to war with them. Poland went on to win the war and Ukraine had become a part of Poland. As World War II came a majority of the Ukrainian people fought with the Soviet Army. Ukraine lost an estimated five to eight million people. They now celebrate Victory Day as one of their ten national holidays. They did not become a complete independent country until July 16, 1990.
